A Record of the First Fifty Miniature Bull Terrier Champions Valerie Allenden (Erenden Kennel in the UK) 9 Valerie Allenden (of Erenden Kennel) presents the A Record of the First Fifty Miniature Bull Terrier Champions, (that's English Champions of course). Each dog's registered name, number, and vital statistics, including Owner, Breeder, date of birth, color, Challenge Certificate Awards (including the date, the show, and the judge's name! As though that were not enough of a feast for any breed gourmet, the information continues with number of litters and registered puppies produced by that dog or bitch! Photos are English-style, mostly free stacked and natural as the breed is shown it its homeland.

The five generation pedigrees are traditionally displayed with Champions in red. As one studies the genealogy of the breed, with a mind to the fact that there are very few English Champions "made up" over the course of a year ( a dog must defeat the champions in order to receive a Challenge Certificate) dominant dogs are easily identified.

Earthdog Ins and Outs: Guiding Natural Instincts for Success in Earthdog Tests and Den Trials Jo Ann Frier-Murza 8 Does your bullie go crazy at the pet store when he sees the rodent section? This may be the sport for you! Being bred for earth work is the reason for the terrier's independence and ability to figure things out for itself, as well as the terrier's interest in chasing, tugging, etc. While actually working earth dogs is not for everyone, understanding our dog's drives and why they were bred to be the way they are can make each of us a more sensitive owner. Jo Ann provides an excellent history of working terriers. It has well researched documentation on each breed and its origin. This book would rank as the "bible" in it's relationship to the others on this topic.
Guide to Owning a Bull Terrier (1999) Muriel P. Lee 6 very helpful in caring and training for new owners, Great book!
McGuffun & Co.--A Bull Terrier History (1964) R.H. Oppenheimer 8 classic and hard to find--costs $185 to $300 USD!
Miniature Bull Terrier Muriel P. Lee and Michael Trafford (photographer) 7 New 3/2005!!! This book includes the history of the Mini Bull in England and the US, a discussion of the breed's characteristics and standard, a chapter on puppy selection, care and rearing. The author discusses house-training and obedience training as well as preventing (and solving) behavior problems. General maintenance, including feeding the Mini Bull throughout his life, grooming and exercise, is carefully considered, as is the preventive healthcare of the breed. For every owner of this "portable big dog," this new colorful guide promises to be an invaluable resource for years to come.

Miniature Bull Terrier (Complete and Reliable Handbook 1997) Barbara J. Andrews 7 Lots of pictures, the origin of the breed in America, etc. Interview about Erenden Kennels in England, and Paul Combs, (Sterling Kennels)--former MBTCA president in USA.
New Owner's Guide To Bull Terriers Betty Desmond 5 good reference book
Show Me! D. Caroline Coile Ph.D. 10 I loved this book. Short, lots of pictures to see what she was talking about! Very helpful. Dog shows are phenomenally popular, immensely competitive, and often perplexing for beginners. Show Me offers easy-to-follow tips and words of wisdom for those new to this challenging sport.
The Dog Owners Guide to Successful Breeding and Health Management Margaret V. Root Kustritz, DVM, PhD, DACT, 9 2006--Has a well cross referenced format. It is easy to find what you need in a hurry. It is very detailed with just enough physiology and anatomy for the details to make sense. It is written in textbook fashion with a FAQ section at the front of and a "Test your understanding" quiz at the end of each chapter. It uses color photographs to show you what the author is talking about when describing specific conditions or situations. It is written in laymans language making it easy to understand and yet it is comprehensive enough for the long time breeder to learn something new. $27 on Amazon.com.
The Dog IQ Test Melissa Miller 7 Lots of fun tests for your dog... like hiding a treat under a blanket and timing your bully to see how long it takes for him to find it!
The New Bull Terrier John Remer, Jr 8 The "Remer book," as it is commonly referred to, is readily available through book vendors at dog shows, may be special ordered through your local bookstore, or might even be available through your library. Written in 1989--best bullie book in my library. Many show pics of bullies all the way back to 1800's! Articles written by Oppenheimer, etc. The MBT chapter is by Donly Chorn of Crescent kennels.
The Toolbox For Remodeling Your Problem Dog Terry Ryan 7

Good suppliment to Cesar Millan methods about being a good pack leader. Loving your dog is not enough, they need exercise and discipline!

From Bar Sinister by Richard Harding Davis, 1903. Marked the first appearance of the Bull Terrier, The Bar Sinister (whose name is actually Kid in the book). The story is based on Ch Edgewood Cold Steel, who won numerous dog shows in North America in early 1900's. It is about 100 pages with beautiful paintings--probably written as a childrens book. The title refers to the puppy's sensative illegitimate birth, from a Black and Tan Terrier dam and a Champion Bull Terrier sire. On a coat of armes the "bend" or "bar" runs down from right to left as a line, representing bastardage heritage.Sinister is only refering to the direction of the bend or line, (or, barre in French).
After Bar Sinister by Raymond Oppenheimer, 1969. Hard to find breeder book.  8
When Pigs Fly: Training Success For Impossible Dogs by Jane Killion, 2007. Excellent Bullie training ideas!  8
